Strength in numbers

The opening sentence of the executive summary of the KPMG Dún Laoghaire Town Study notes that “Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council recognises the importance of Dún Laoghaire Town as an economic hub and the county town. It is crucial that Dún Laoghaire town is sufficiently prepared to respond to the changing economic environment.”

The key stakeholders in our town centre, need to respond to the opportunity ahead by pooling our resources on one key strategic area, that of delivering and growing the communications and tech enablement of the partner organisations through a central social enterprise. This form of town centre collaboration and stakeholder upskilling is an objective in a number of government strategies and national and EU competitions and awards such as the .IE Digital Town Awards.

There are a number of stakeholder organisations in Dun Laoghaire Town centre that have the most to gain from a vibrant Dun Laoghaire, and in many ways have the most to offer in the achieving of this vibrancy. By pooling our resources and cross collaborating these organisations can target creating a partnership which can aim to be an ambitious counterpart to provide a progressive town centre counterpart to Living Streets and the Harbour developments.

This collaboration, a digital cooperative, is facilitated by the social enterprise the Dargan Institute clg, who have managed the digital assets of the town directly since 2019 and indirectly since 2016. In addition to the online awareness raising of the stakeholders goals this cooperative will help provide strength in numbers by bringing together the strengths of the members of the Coop which include:
